Scarlett was born on January 7th, 2013. This is her at about 8 weeks of age when we first picked her out to add to our family. She came home on Valentines Day :) She is the most cuddly pooch I have ever know and very smart too. She is really well behaved. Her hobbies are running full speed in the yard and playing fetch. At night she likes to sleep close to her people.
This is Scarlett's belly before pregnancy. In March 2014 we had found a stud named Logan who is a pure-bred Cocker Spaniel and we were just waiting now for Scarlett to go into heat.
<-----Meet Logan- 8 year old Cocker Spaniel who acts just like a puppy. He is so smart understands you like he is a person. He is ver affectionate as well and loves to play with his ball and stuffed animals.
7/30/2014
We realized that Scarlett had finally gone into heat, so Logan came to us to have a sleepover for awhile. On this day she was still bleeding bright red a little and would not allow him to mount her, but she still showed some interest in him.
8/1/2014
Scarlett's bleeding has stopped, Logan tries to mount her and she allows him, but no ties occur this day.
8/2/2014 (Day 1)
Scarlett shows a lot of interest in Logan this day and is even backing up to him to encourage him. Logan mounts her and they tie for the first time for about 30 minutes. Scarlett was very unsure of this, she did whine some because she was confused being that this was her first time, but she did settle down after a few minutes and got more irritated after that because she could not do anything but just stand there grumbling.
8/3/2014 (Day 2)
Scarlett still shows interest in Logan and backs up to him, but he does not mount. She is also bleeding a little, I'm guessing from the first tie or her heat. It's not bleeding enough to be alarmed.
8/4/2014 (Day 3)
We wake up at 7:30am to the sound of whining and sure enough they are in the process of being tied again. They tie for 20 mins this morning. I guess old Logan needed a break! We were very grateful for this because we wanted one more tie before Logan had to go home. Scarlett was much better with this tie then the first one.
8/5/2014 (Day 4)
Logan's parents came to pick him up, Scarlett did not seem too happy about him leaving. We started Scarlett on puppy food this day.
8/25/2014 (Day 23)
So it has been awhile since I took notes on her, but here's what we got so far. We have noticed some changes in Scarlett. It is still hard to tell if she is pregnant or not, but there are some things leaning more toward yes.
1. Her Behavior- She is more stubborn now and does not listen as well, almost like she is the "princess" haha. She is also very needy and wants to be right under my husband and I at all times. She is less tolerant of the kids playing with her.
2. Her nipples are bigger and we can feel some itty bitty pouches under them, like where the milk would come in.
3. Her vulva is still swollen and has not gone back down to its natural (out of heat) size.
4. You can feel that her belly is a little bit rounder, but still visually hard to tell.

Scarlett threw up a little...morning sickness???
8/27/2014 (Day 25)
David noticed her stamina is not what it was, she won't run as hard with our four-wheeler as she used to. She used to run and keep up with it, but now she gives up once we go fast.
8/30/2014 (Day 28)
I noticed that her "belly bump" has gotten a tad big bigger

We have been keeping Scarlett locked in the crate at night because she tends to use the bathroom in the house if we don't. Nothing much except for her belly growth has changed. Her nipples are able to be seen hanging a little when she stands now. I can't wait to be able to feel/see the pups moving in her belly. I am guessing she's going to have 6 pups.

Lastnight I bought some welping supplies including a stethoscope in which I was able to hear little puppy heartbeats!!! Scarlett's temp is 100.5 which is ok. Today I am taking her off puppy food and introducing her to some good quality dog food for the remainder of her pregnancy .
Today Scarletts temp was 100.6. Still good :) Don't want to see a drop in temp yet, we need those puppies to keep cooking for at least another week. I love listening to their heartbeats, I feel so close to them already. I wish I could live like the 101 Dalmatians and just keep them all :) Scarlett doesn't move as fast now. We have all her welling supplies and area set up for her and ready for next week when she is due which is next Saturday October 4th (Makes 63 days). We took her off the puppy food and put her on some real good doggy kibble for the remainder of her pregnancy. Now we play the waiting game, I know this next week is going to FLY by! Or maybe not....

I FELT the puppies move today :) It is so amazing! Heartbeats are loud and strong, I am guesstimating 6 or 7 pups :) Her temp for yesterday was at 100, today was 100.3 . Still hold ing strong and of course the belly is huge! We are getting closer! She currently has a horrible case of fleas and I am washing her like every other day, trying to get rid of them. I heard that giving her flea treatments is not very good while she is pregnant so all I can do is wash them off. Oh well, I know I would hate to be pregnant and itchy! She seems much better with every wash though and I am keeping her contained in her little bedroom that does not have carpet, just tile floor so they are spreading even more and the floors are done several times a day. I am determined to take care of this flea problem before the pups come!

53 days
Her temp was 99.6 this morning, will retake later this afternoon. It needs to come back up. She is very noticeably uncomfortable, especially when she sleeps, she was up all night grumbling and trying to get comfy, poor girl, not much longer though ;)
Her temp went back up to 100.6 tonight, so that's good, she also lost some mucous tonight and I noticed her belly dropped. Also, she started lactating today. It's drawing near, we still need a few days though
9/26/2014 (55Days)
Took her temp this morning and it was at 100.4, she started acting weird like she didn't want to leave my side and I work from home so she tried to find the most comfy spot next to me, and this is what it was....
Just took her temp again 98.5, I wonder if she is just cold....Im going to put her on my bed and see what happens.
So I put her on my bed, its been about 20 min, took her temp and it is now up to 99.4...still not quite normal. I will keep an eye on it though.
1pm- 100.3
2pm- 99.3
4:30pm-99.4
5:19- 100.1
Her temp is really fluctuating, she's staying close to my heels. still unsure if this is the real thing.
9/27/2014 (58 Days)
Today Scarlett is acting weird, she's not her usual bubbly self, she is wanting to sleep more but wants me next to her. Lastnight and this morning her temp was up to 100 again, but I just took it again right now and it was 99. I know we are getting close, I just hate the anticipation of when!!!
10/2/2014 ( Day 62)
So its been four days since my last update...Scarletts temp has stayed in the 99-100's, but not any lower....UNTIL TODAY, this morning at 7:30am it started at 100.1, at 9:15 am it was at 99.0, and at 10:15am it was at 98.7, hopefully it will continue to go lower. She is having noticeable contractions, however, i am unsure of how regular they are. the area around her vulva has become swollen and soft. Today she has been pacing around a lot, but not digging as of yet.The pups have moved lower getting close, if not already in the birth canal. This has been an exhausting few days for me, I cannot sleep because I am anxious. We will see....
Update:
So her temp dropped lowest ever tonight to 97.5. Seem like we could be having some pups!
10/3/2014 (Day 62)
Scarlett is showing some signs of nesting and her stool has become loose. I have also noticed some contractions however she doesn't seemed distressed in anyway yet. I will keep you guys posted!
Update (11:26am EST): She is going to the bathroom frequently, took her outside and she urinated like 5 times and had about 3 bowel movements, she is panting here and there also, I can notice contractions too.
Update (5:35pm): We have puppies!!!!!
At 11:45am her water broke, she didn't shiver at all and only panted a little which after doing all my labor research I found to be odd. She did excellent, no crying at all!
11:50- Puppy #1 was born! All white female
12:16pm-Puppy #2, white female
12:46pm- Puppy #3, Black male
2:50pm- Puppy #6, Buff Male

Thanks so much for this. Most useful. I have a black cockapoo on day 28...still hoping that she is with puppies.
ReplyDeleteI also have a dark brown cockapoo I helped mated 6 wks ago when she was on heat showing no signs of swelling nipples yet but am still hoping she is pregnant
